USRowing Jr. Sculling Dev Camp
June 23 - July 14, 2012
This camp is by Invitation Only for high school athletes who show potential and have future goals of Selection Camp and Junior World Championships.
Requirements
- Birth year: 1995 or later
- demonstrated ability to compete at a high level
2K Erg’s- Women- 7:30-7:40, Men 6:50-7:05 - Program size: 20 athletes, preferably 10 boys and 10 girls
- Passport
- Health, Travel, & Waiver forms
Accommodations
Seattle Pacific University…..a 10 minute walk from the boathouse.
Meals: At the Boathouse
Camp Program
Two water practices and one land practice per day…on most days. We’ll work you hard each day to improve your sculling skills and knowledge, and then we’ll give you the opportunity to play as hard as you want.
Coaches will be SRC Head Coach, Conal Groom and Georgetown Novice Coach, Steve Full.
On the water:
- Rhythm and boat feel
- Sculling Bladework
- Power per stroke rowing
- Navigational skills to bow a straight boat
- Boat Balancing skills
- Proper stroke sequence
- Flat and rough water skills
- The technical differences rowing and racing 1X’s, 2X’s and 4X’s
- Long distance low rate rows
- Short race pace pieces
On Land:
- Ergs, Sliders, Rowperfects
- Running and Biking
- Circuits and Weights
- Proper warm up and cool down exercises
Camp Bonuses
Local Olympians and National Team members will share their vast knowledge on a range of rowing and racing related topics:
- Care and feeding of your body
- Mental tenacity required to train and race at an elite level
- How to travel, how to pack
- Stories from the race course- world cup, world championships and Olympics
- Injury prevention and management
Just for fun
We’ll take you strawberry picking, to an afternoon in the mountains, July 4th fireworks in Lake Union, and a little down time to recuperate.
An USRowing Development Camp Unisuit is included in cost.
Racing
We'll attend the BC Champs Regatta, July 6-8. Test out all of your new skills in Victoria, British Columbia for a very competitive weekend of small boat racing. PASSPORTS REQUIRED
