USRowing Jr HP Camp
March 10-11, 2012
The purpose of this camp is to identify sculling talent on the West Coast. The HP camp is open to all athletes, boys and girls. US Rowing HP camps focus on accomplishing three things:
Identifying Athletes for the US Rowing Selection Camps
The HP Camp is looking to identify new or improved, age eligible, talented rowers who have a good shot at making boats to represent the US at the Junior World Championships. This camp is a good way for an athlete to be recognized and have the National Junior Sculling Coach, Guenter Beutter, become aware of their talent.
Identify Young Rising Talent
The HP Camps help the national team coaches identify young and rising talented athletes. These athletes, if age eligible and able, may be directed towards High Performance or Development Camps for the summer. By identifying younger talent the US Rowing Junior program hopes to aid these athletes in their development to meet personal goals by being a resource for them. Early identification helps the system better track athletes and become aware of talent depth on a national scale. We believe that by identifying athletes early and directing those interested to appropriate development strategies, the US JR Worlds Team will ultimately see more success in sculling.
Provide Athlete Assessment
These HP camps, by their organization, help athletes have a better sense of where they stand amongst their peers in a broader context.
