Junior Racing Team 2017/18
Fall: September 5 – November 18
Winter: November 27 – January 27
Spring: January 29 – May 21 (June 10 for YNC-qualified athletes)
Summer: June 11 – August 12
Our Junior Racing Team is focused on teaching 8th-12th Grade athletes the fundamentals of racing, supporting each of them in meeting their goals and developing fully as both individuals and team members. Each day we ask our athletes to work hard, play harder, and believe in themselves.
We emphasize the importance of sculling and small boat handling skills throughout the development process. In addition we introduce sweep skills into our training and race plans as we deem appropriate.
- Our mission for each Junior Racer is simple: Row with skill, confidence, and technical proficiency – every seat, every boat class.
- Our goal for ourselves is to develop athletes, regardless of experience and current athleticism, to win local, regional, national, and international competitions.
- Boat handling and basic technical skills
- Fun and Games on and off the water
- Fitness development
- A broad introduction to the sport
Middle School Rowing 2017/18
Grades 6 to 8
Fall: September 5 – November 17
Early Spring: January 22 – March 29
Late Spring: April 2 – May 31
The emphasis at the Middle School level is:
We try to get on the water every day. Occasionally in winter, it is too cold and/or wet. On these days we may go for a run, then treat everyone to hot chocolate, do an Erg Relay Race and some Core work… and then watch World Championship races, or a myriad of other games Coach Keara has developed to teach critical skills needed to be more proficient on the water. We have found the days off the water to be as important as the days on, in developing friendships and an understanding of the sport.
Mon – Thurs, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Choose two days per week. With advance notice, those days can be changed over the course of the year.
